Our partner charity
Green Gables Haven exists to provide a temporary, secure, and nurturing environment for survivors of domestic violence in Barry County, Michigan. Their mission is simple but critical: to offer safe emergency shelter and supportive services to individuals and families facing violence, crisis, and homelessness.
Green Gables operates a 14-bed emergency shelter, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year — including weekends and holidays. Women and their children can stay for up to four weeks in a safe, supportive setting where they are provided food, personal care items, and individualized case management.
Beyond emergency shelter, Green Gables offers a wide range of services to both residents and non-residents. These include advocacy, professional counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, and referrals to additional community resources.
On average, Green Gables supports between 95 and 130 individuals annually — all right here in Barry County. Their commitment to keeping families local is intentional. For many children escaping violence, school may be the only place that feels stable and safe. Remaining in their own community helps preserve routine, friendships, and a sense of normalcy during an incredibly difficult time.
Green Gables is funded almost entirely by the generosity of Barry County residents, local fundraisers, and community partnerships. It costs approximately $500,000 annually to operate the shelter and programs, and they continue to sustain their mission through grassroots support, an endowment through the Barry Community Foundation, and the dedication of people who believe survivors deserve safety close to home.
Their work is urgent. Their impact is real. And their strength comes directly from the community they serve.
